Can Tho

Can Tho is one of the most important cities in Mekong Delta in Vietnam. Can Tho is not only the city that has the nice landscapes, but also a rich culture in the South East of the country with the specific feature of the Mekong Delta. Called “Tay Do”, Can Tho had been the famous land in the past and till now the city is still one of the wonderful destinations in this area for travelling.

How to get in

Can Tho is in the very convinient position in the transportation between Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces in Mekong Delta. There is the highway called Trung Luong that passed through it and also the airport that far from the center just about 10km. Beside there is the rivers in there, so the water transportation is so good from Can Tho to other porvinces in the area of Mekong Delta.

If you are in Ho Chi Minh City, it takes you about 2 hours to Can Tho by bus and 45 minutes by the flight. So it is not so difficult for you to transfer to this city. Especially, on the road to Can Tho by bus, you have chance to stop by My Tho City – the capital city of Tien Giang province, the land is famous to tourists who to love Mekong Dleta in Vietnam.

Go around

For visiting in Can Tho, you can take a boat for the trips in the river or some tours to islets and towns that located closely the city. Of course there are many destination that you can come to visit by car, by bus, motocycle and even by walking.

In Can Tho the very famous places to visit are Ninh Kieu Wharf and The Old Market located nearly the center. From your hotels in the center, you can go out and walk down the street and have some your steps to these places. Ninh Kieu Wharf and The Old Market are so great in the afternoon because they receive the fresh air and the wind from Hau river. If you walk here in the evening, you will have the good feeling because of the busy space by the night market and also the people who walk along the wharf or go shopping.

The weather

In Can Tho, the weather is not so hot or so cold because its location in the Mekong Delta. The highest temperature is not higher than 30 C degree, so you do not worry about if you are not familiar with the hot weather like in Ho Chi Minh city.

Of course, you should pay attention for some months in the year for visiting Can Tho by raining. The month when it is rain so much usually in July, Augusr, Septmeber and the bigining of October. The best time for your exploring the city is in the end of the year. It means that you should come to Can Tho in December to January of the later year. This is the period of the Tet’s coming, so you can enjoy the best pictures of the city from the river with flower then fruit boats in the floating markets, fresh orchards and green gardens, also the people who are bustling for their business in the end of the year.

For food: the specialites in Can Tho are “banh tet la cam” – a type of stick cake, some types of famous local fruits like “vu sua”, “dau Ha Chau”.
