An Giang province

In the tours in Mekong Delta, you should not miss the trip to An Giang province. This is one of the important provinces in the area. There are many things to explore here with the huge mountains, the religious places and the specialties that attract people strongly.

 How to get in

There are two main places for you to explore in An Giang province. They are Long Xuyen city and Chau Doc Town.

Long Xuyen is considered the main city of the province. The city is far from Ho Chi Minh City nearly 200km. For your transfer from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Xuyen, you can take a bus trip that starts from Mien Tay Bus station located in No 1 Street, Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City.

Chau Doc Town is the main tourist area in An Giang province. The town is far from Ho Chi Minh City more than 240km. You can take a bus from Mien Tay Bus Station in Ho Chi Minh City to the town.

 Go around

For your visiting around Long Xuyen city or Chau Doc Town, you can have a motorbike rental to drive from these destinations to the other one. Or in the case that you do not clear about the destinations, you can take a motorbike taxi. It is convenient for you to go around. For the destinations in Long Xuyen: there are the typical places for your visiting such as My Phuoc Temple, An Giang Museum that located in the center of the city, Nguyen Du Lake located in My Binh Ward, Quang Te Pagoda, Long Hung Pagoda located in Phu Tan Town and Ong Ho Islet along Hau River.

For the destinations in Chau Doc Town: Chau Doc is the famous town for travelling in An Giang province for a long time, so from here you can find many destinations to explore. The places for your visiting here in the town are Cam Mountain, Phi Lan pagoda, Chau Long pagoda, Tan Chau Silk village, the floating village, Linh Son pagoda, Tuc Dup Hill, Tra Su Cajuput Forest and some other places like Ba The Mountain, Cham Village in Chau Giang, Vinh Te Canal, Lady Xu Temple, Hang Pagoda, Tay An Pagoda, Thoai Ngoc Hau Tomb, Tinh Bien Market, Co To Mountain, Sam Mountain, Chau Doc Market and Bung Binh Thien.

 
The weather

There is the rain season in An Giang from May to November and the dry season is from December to April. The dry month usually falls in February each year and the rain month strongly is September. The best time for travelling in An Giang is considered the period of April and August in Lunar calendar. The April in Lunar year is the festival time in the town with the big festival in Ba Chua Xu Temple (Lady Xu Temple). And in August in Lunar Calendar is the time called the floating season with impressive boating tour to explore the province.

Food and drink

For food: An Giang is rich of local delicious dishes such as rice and Huong Duong chicken rice, the dishes cooked from the beef like grilled beef, beef porridge, fish rice noodles, salted fish hot pot and sau dau salad called neem leaves salad etc.

For drink: in An Giang, you can find the coconut as the fresh fruit in the thirsty moment. Relating to the alcoholic drinks, you can taste the local liquid like rice liquor. From the province, you can find the beer with different type and branch in the restaurants.

For the staying, most of time tourists who come to An Giang choose to have their overnight in Chau Doc, because there are many hotels in this town more than in Long Xuyen. However, recent years, tourists who love to stay in Long Xuyen and not to focus on staying in Chau Doc only if there is not any special requires from the tour.

Nguyen Hue Shopping Center: Tran Hung Dao Str., Long Xuyen City. This is the electric world in Long Xuyen City with the rich products of many brands. From here you can buy some special things for your souvenir or ceramic products from Minh Lang brand.  

Long Xuyen floating market: located along Hau River in Long Xuyen and it is far from the center of Long Xuyen City about 2km. This is the unique floating market in Long Xuyen where you can find the vegetable and the local food on boats.

Long Xuyen Market: located in My Long ward, Long Xuyen City where you can find the local products and all the necessary.

Chau Doc Market: located in Bach Dang Str., Chau Phu A, Chau Doc Town; supply the local products and necessary, especially the world of salted fish with a hundred types.

Tinh Bien Market:  the border market that located in the area Bay Nui in Tinh Bien Town. This is one of the unique markets in Vietnam where you can find the local products and the rich insect world with the different type for cooking the delicious dishes as in the insect market in Cambodia.  

For specialties from An Giang: there is Chau Doc market called the kingdom of salted fishes with many types for you to cook the best dishes especially the hot pots. There is also the dry fish that you can keep a long time with the good flavor that is not changed or local delicious sausage that you may not find out anywhere else. Beside that, you can take some silk or local brocade for souvenirs with the best products that made by local clever people.

 Culture, holiday and people

There are more than 15 ethnic groups who live together so you can explore here the rich and diversified culture and also the holidays and festivals. An Giang people are so kind and it is very easy to have the close relationship between people including the local people or tourists.

The biggest and famous festival in An Giang is Lady Xu Festival in Chau Doc. It is happened in April in Lunar Calender. This festival is one of the special marks to attract more than 2 millions of tourists and the pilgrims who come to Chau Doc each year.
